St. Mary's School Museum
When St. Mary’s School first started a century ago as a school for girls by the Anglican Church, it was located at a wooded fringe of Kuala Lumpur. It built its reputation quickly and its alumni included distinguished members of the Malaysian community.
By the 1990s, the school found itself right at the heart of Kuala Lumpur’s central business district and the pressure to move became overbearing. The school finally moved in the new millenium to the outskirts of Kuala Lumpur to a far larger piece of land.
Nostalgia, love for the old school and the preservation of memories, moved the old-girls’ association to start a museum, using salvaged materials from the old school. A classroom near the entrance of the new school was dedicated to the museum.
The result was a labour of love, with the heart speaking the loudest of all.
